Brand Spotlight: MadeWorn August 28, 2019 10:29

We are proud to be carrying MadeWorn now at Essentials on Park Lane.

"MadeWorn is built on craftsmanship, an intense eye for detail and a total committment to creating the highest quality American products."

Blaine Halvorson is the creator and takes such pride in creating unique one-of-a-kind products and artwork. He goes to great lengths to recreate the effects of time and wear and tries to use historically accurate sewing equipment to make the process as authentic as possible.

In 1998, he co-founded Junkfood Clothing, and created vintage looking T-shirts licensing beloved brands that are seen as retro pop culture. In 2005 Junkfood Clothing sold for $20 million with over 80 licenses from N.F.L to the N.B.A, from Disney to Marvel to Star Wars to DC Comics to every music band you can think of as well.

In 2013 he founded his luxury brand, MadeWorn featuring one of a kind pieces. We are carrying his rock 'n roll vintage concert tees because we fell in love with the hand worn, aged, unique look of them.  These shirts look like the one you or your dad may have in the back of the closet and never gave away from sheer love of the band and all those memories.

Stripes on Stripes May 21, 2019 21:55

Remember when mixing prints was a major fashion faux pas? Well, that is most definitely not the case anymore! Stripes are the biggest trend of the summer so far. Elevate your striped pieces by matching them with more stripes to achieve an effortlessly trendy look. Below are some standby tips and tricks to mix your stripes.

 1. Consistent Color Scheme

Although doubling up may seem scary, try and stick to a consistent color scheme and you can do no wrong. Try to pick a single color, like we did below with pink. Find various shades of the color and match them together. We love this Xirena striped button up, not only does it pair with everything, but it is also super lightweight and easy to maintain. The star of the show has to be these Everly Beach Pants ! These culottes are not only comfortable but they pull together every outfit. They make dressing up or down super easy and effortless, and we can’t get over this color!

2. Mix Sizes of Stripes

Have fun with different sized stripe patterns! In this look below, not only did we stay consistent with the color scheme but because of the varying stripe sizing, it appeals more to the eye. This Jack by BB Dakota top can elevate any look, the sleeves have a really fun puff on the bottom with helps keep it trendy while the pin stripe makes it a classic. These Ballari Stripe Pants are my favorite striped pants we have! I love the nautical inspiration with the visible buttons as well as the various colors in the pants. The wider stripes on the pants balance out the smaller print on the top and make for a really cute, easy outfit.

In the previous two looks, the stripes have all been vertical. And, as you probably know, vertical stripes are a much more attractive pattern. But horizontal stripes can be a staple in your wardrobe as well.

3. Mix Vertical and Horizontal

We love this Vince Pencil Stripe Short Sleeve Crew top, below, because it is such a minimalistic stripe and you can literally pair it with anything. Did we mention it’s buttery soft?

Pair your horizontal stripes with vertical stripes to add some depth and take away from the widening illusion horizontal stripes may give. This AG Rochelle Romper is a great option to pair with the shirt because it only shows a small amount of the horizontal stripes. It is also really easy to throw on alone or with a top underneath, and makes for a clean, put-together look.

Now go have fun mixing stripes this summer! You'll see, it's such a great way to update your style this summer.

Shop Sustainably with ESSENTIALS ON PARK LANE May 21, 2019 21:54

Did you know that the fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world, only second to the oil industry? Here are the stone cold facts:

  • It takes 1,800 gallons of water to make ONE pair of jeans
  • 15% of fabric intended for clothing ends up unused on the cutting room floor
  • The fashion industry alone releases 1.2 billion tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year
  • Half a million tonnes of plastic microfibers are released into the oceans every year due to washing garments

At Essentials, we are big on offering high-quality brands that you love while also thinking of our environmental impact. That being said, I am here to tell you about one of our favorite sustainable brands and...

A new program we are unveiling at Essentials! Stay tuned - or skip to the bottom of this blog :)

We love our favorite denim brand, AG Jeansfor three reasons:

  1. They look and feel AMAZING!
  2. They are based in Los Angeles, CA
  3. They are extremely eco-conscious! (Major bonus, right?!)

AG Jeans is a company that is very committed to environmental responsibility and awareness. They use 'Ozone Technology' in the makings of their products which cuts water usage by 50%. They also incorporate the use of natural and biodegradable fabrics like Tencel and Modal into their garments. Lastly, AG cuts their patterns in a way that maximizes fabric yardage and minimizes the amount of scraps they generate, and what is leftover is collected and repurposed for home and car insulation.

Furthermore, you can look great and feel great about your purchase when you buy a pair of AG jeans.

Now, here's a little preview of the fabulous new AG pieces we've all been drooling over for the past couple weeks:

First up, The Rhett Vintage High-Waisted Straight

AG 'The Rhett Vintage High-Waisted Straight,' $225 // Madeworn 'Nirvana Smiley Sweatshirt,' $195 // Free People 'Cecile Ankle Boot,' $168

I LOVE these jeans. If you're looking for the perfect pair of vintage-feeling jeans that hug your body in every place, look no further. I am personally a fan of 100% cotton jeans because I know they will stay up on my waist and look equally as amazing when I put them on as they do at end of the day.

Fit Notes: These should feel tight when you try them on. Due to the cotton content in these jeans, they will stretch a little when you wear them so they will give you that snug feel throughout the day but won't feel like you can't breathe. I went a size up from my normal size and they are perfect.

Second, The Amanda Dress and Amara Cardigan

AG 'Amanda Dress,' $198 // AG 'Amara Cardigan,' $188 // Free People 'Cecile Ankle Boot,' $168 // Gorjana 'Harbour Hoops,' $60

This dress is the perfect get-up-and-go outfit. As soon as you throw it on and pair it with a bootie, you look put together in seconds! What I love about this dress is the comfort and wash. This denim wash is a very unique vintage-style wash with all the fading techniques used. It is simply an easy way to achieve an effortless look by pairing it with the AG Amara Cardigan and any black booties.

Fit Notes: I think most of AG's ready-to-wear runs generous, and this dress is no exception. I wore an XS/S in this picture and I think depending on the length and look you're going for, size down.

NextThe Ex-Boyfriend Slim

AG 'Ex-Boyfriend Slim,' $325 // Michael Lauren 'Nyle Button-Up Shirt,' $97 // Free People 'Brocade At Ease Loafer,' $89 // Gorjana 'Quinn Long Adjustable Necklace,' $75

Ok, these are my FAVORITE jeans I have bought, maybe ever. I think everyone needs a low-rise, boyfriend style jean in their closet, and the patchwork details on these make it a must-have. These again have the stiffness of a vintage jean while maintaining the perfect fit of a modern jean. Let me tell you, I have worn them with just about every outfit combination imaginable and they look great with everything!! You NEED to invest in a pair!

Fit Notes: If you want them to fit more oversized/baggy like a traditional boyfriend jean, size up. However, these are the boyfriend slim, so you get the low-rise style of a boyfriend jean while showing off your amazing figure. I wear my normal size in these.

Lastly, The Eva Dress

AG 'Eva Dress,' $258 // Quay Australia 'High-Key Green/Gold Mirror Aviator,' $65

This dress has everything. The high-low hem, asymmetrical back, pockets, and it is perfect for layering due to the 3/4 sleeve. This dress is knee length or right above the knee unbelted, so belting it raises the hemline a little bit and lets you show off those legs! It is also a shift-style dress, so you can easily define your waistline with a belt if you want to add a little more shape to your look. I think layering it with a long-sleeve underneath is perfect, like this turtleneck by Lilla P. You can wear this in so many ways, it works great open as a duster/cardigan as well!

Fit Notes: As previously mentioned, AG's dresses run big, so I wore an XS in this dress. Unless you want an oversized fit, (or space to wear chunky sweaters underneath), size down.

Now, here is what you've been waiting for...
